Verisign hacked, data “might not” stolen

by EO 3. February 2012 10:29

Here we go!

If you are current follower of my tweets or blog , or if you ever attended or watched one of my “Ethical Hacking” classes or seminars then this is not a “surprise” for you.

The day Symantec purchased “VeriSign”, i guessed that they are going to be hacked soon. And today based on SC Magazine, VeriSign has admitted that they were hacked more than once in 2010 ( I am not sure should I put a smile (Smile) face here or sad (Sad smile) face Confused smile . Simile as I knew this was going to happen, sad as I have customers they are “protected (!) with SSL service which VeriSign offers???

VeriSign management claims that they were not aware of this incidence until September 2011,  and the staff is admitting that they have not any “evidence” or footprint of the attack, which they believe “no data was stolen” . This statement is a bigger worry in my thoughts as knowing Cyber Criminals will usually not hack a “Secure Seal” provider for FUN!

This attack is brining new question in to our minds, how secure is our SSL? As we all know VeriSign is not the first hacked Internet Infrastructure firm, as DigiNotar, Comodo and RSA was hacked in the past.

Thanks for Reuters for finding this info and sharing it with us.
