Mercedes Benz AMG Data Breach

Mercedes Benz AMG Data Breach 2021

 Mercedes Benz AMG Data Breach

I regret to inform all of you that I just received an email from Mercedes Benz AMG stating my data which is hold by them has been hacked 🙁 I am one of the 1000 AMG victims and again on of the 1.6 million victims which is hit in the Mercedes-Benz data breach , here are the Mercedes Benz Data Breach details:

What happened ?

An external security expert discovered the breach, reported and then finally Mercedes resolved the issue. Mercedes also stated that it has alerted the necessary government organizations and that it has already started contacting people impacted by the incident.

What is leaked ?

Both customers’ and potential buyer’s driver’s license numbers, credit card details, and social security numbers may have been exposed throughout the impacted timeframe. Furthermore, the data leak includes birth dates and credit ratings.

Names, phone numbers, addresses, and email addresses of the customers comprise the majority of the personal data exposed. Mercedes said that anyone whose private data was compromised will get a free credit monitoring service subscription for a year.

To access the information, Mercedes-Benz claimed that one must know specific software tools and applications, adding that search on the web would not reveal any data stored in such documents.

This is the second German Car manufacturer was hit this month. Volkswagen disclosed that a data leak had impacted about 3.3 million clients of the company and its luxury automotive affiliate Audi for more than 2 years.

Updates

On June 11, 2021, a vendor informed Mercedes-Benz that sensitive personal information of less than 1,000 Mercedes-Benz customers and interested buyers was inadvertently made accessible on a cloud storage platform. This confirmation was part of an ongoing investigation conducted in cooperation with the vendor. The issue was uncovered through the dedicated work of an external security researcher. It is our understanding the information was entered by customers and interested buyers on dealer and Mercedes-Benz websites between January 1, 2014 and June 19, 2017. No Mercedes-Benz system was compromised as a result of this incident, and at this time, we have no evidence that any Mercedes-Benz files were maliciously misused.

Data security is a serious matter for MBUSA. Our vendor confirmed that the issue is corrected and that such an event cannot be replicated. We will continue our investigation to ensure that this situation is properly addressed.

The vendor reports that the personal information for these individuals (less than 1,000) is comprised mainly of self-reported credit scores as well as a very small number of driver license numbers, social security numbers, credit card information and dates of birth. To view the information, one would need knowledge of special software programs and tools – an Internet search would not return any information contained in these files. (Heimdal Security)
