Windows 11 is coming

After nearly 6 years finally Windows is getting a major upgrade. Microsoft is promising that Windows 11 is designed to bring us closer to what we love. Satya Nadella ( CEO of Microsoft ) gave us the clue in the Build conference that we should expect a new operating system. A operating system which is designed to take us to the new era.

With Windows 11, we should be able

  • Consume and build apps
  • Join community and create a community
  • Not just to play games but also create games

Windows 11 is promising to empowering us to choose the applications which we want to run, give is what we need and make it easier to us to connect and be more productive.

  • 40% smaller
  • The taskbar is now renamed the dock. and it is optimized for touch as well as mouse peripherals
  • New multitasking features with Snap Layouts (New multitasking features ) & Snap Groups (you can go back to previously snapped windows from the dock)
  • You are going to be create separate Desktops
  •  improved multi-monitor support
  • Microsoft Teams intergradation to the dock (taskbar) and promises to connect to any platform
  • new design to Microsoft Store with WPA, EWP and Win32 apps support ; and if you are a developer you  will get 100% of the revenue, unlike Apple Store or Google Store
  • Android app support to run natively from Windows
  • Even more customizable start menu
  • And finally Windows Widgets are back ( which I used to love)
  • If you are a gamer then you will love the Game Pass app ( replaced with XBOX app)

Windows 11 Security

Security was a big focus on Windows 1o, and I am happy to see that Windows 11 is taking security to the next level. Here are some Security highlights which you will love , and for sure I will blog about those very soon in details

  • Hardware-based isolation, encryption are turned on by default
  • Improvements on Windows Hello for Business to make passwordless better
  • Microsoft is raising the security baselines to meet the needs of the evolving threat landscape and the new world of hybrid work and learning.
  • Secured-core PC , which applies best-practices security techniques to the firmware layer

Windows 11 release date

Microsoft says Windows 11 will be out “this holiday season” – which is likely in or after  November and or just before Christmas.

How much is Windows 11?

If you have Windows 10 the upgrade is going to be FREE. To purchase it as OEM or Retail, i guess it will not cost more then Windows 10.

How to test Windows 11

First step is going to be joining Windows Insiders Program , you can do it via the below steps :

1) Via https://insider.windows.com :

Simply click and follow the steps

2) Via Windows 10 : 

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Insider Program on your Windows 10 device. (You must be an administrator on your device to see this setting.)
  • Select the Get Started button. Under Pick an account to get started, select + to connect the Microsoft account you registered with and continue.
  • Follow the directions on your screen to choose the experience and channel you’d like to get Insider Preview builds through. (Not sure which channel to choose? Learn more about channels.)
  • Review the Privacy Statement and program terms, confirm, and choose Restart Now or Restart Later to finish setting up your device.
  • Once your device restarts, make sure your data settings are set to the right level, so you can receive preview builds.
  • Once you’ve checked your data settings, go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and select the Check for updates button to download the latest Insider Preview build based on the settings you chose. Your device will update like it normally would with a Windows update.

Is your PC read to run Windows 11 ?

There is a very easy way to check , just downlow  and use the PC Health Check app to see if your current PC meets the requirements to run Windows 11. If so, you can get a free upgrade when it rolls out.

Installing Windows 11

I installed on a VM and for sure its not the same experience as run it on a Physically machine, saying that, I will use my surface with the official build 🙂 which will be released soon.
