It is no overstatement to say that 2019 saw a torrid pace of development of Asia-Pacific region data protection and cybersecurity laws. The European Union’s introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation (the “GDPR”) in 2018 continues to force a reassessment of the fitness for purpose of existing data protection laws in the region.
The data protection landscape in the Asia-Pacific region is rapidly maturing compared to just a few years ago, with implementation and enforcement of privacy and data security laws becoming more rigorous and stringent.
Technology is one of the major forces transforming our lives. However, its misuse causes detrimental effects. The digital era has opened up various concerns such as data theft, scams, eavesdropping, cyberbullying, to name a few, with the overarching concern on the intrusion to the privacy of individuals.
In answer to consumers’ increasing concern and scrutiny on how their data is being utilised, managed and secured by corporations. This edition of Customer Privacy and Data Protection Asia Summit will bring stalwarts from various industries under one roof to discuss and share thoughts and experiences about the evolving privacy and data protection regulatory regime.
